191df34617 hw/char: sifive_uart: Raise IRQ according to the Tx/Rx watermark thresholds
Currently, the SiFive UART raises an IRQ whenever:

  1. ie.txwm is enabled.
  2. ie.rxwm is enabled and the Rx FIFO is not empty.

It does not check the watermark thresholds set by software. However,
since commit [1] changed the SiFive UART character printing from
synchronous to asynchronous, Tx overflows may occur, causing characters
to be dropped when running Linux because:

  1. The Linux SiFive UART driver sets the transmit watermark level to 1
[2], meaning a transmit watermark interrupt is raised whenever a
character is enqueued into the Tx FIFO.
  2. Upon receiving a transmit watermark interrupt, the Linux driver
transfers up to a full Tx FIFO's worth of characters from the Linux
serial transmit buffer [3], without checking the txdata.full flag
     before transferring multiple characters [4].

To fix this issue, we must honor the Tx/Rx watermark thresholds and
raise interrupts only when the Tx threshold is exceeded or the Rx
threshold is undercut.

61240e3a06 hw/char: sifive_uart: Avoid infinite delay of async xmit function
The current handler for TXFIFO writes schedules an async callback to
pop characters from the queue. When software writes to TXFIFO faster
than the async callback delay (100ns), the timer may be pushed back
while the previous character has not be dequeued yet. This happens in
particular when using -icount with small shift values. This is
especially worrysome when software repetitively issues amoor.w
instructions (as suggested by SiFive specification) and the FIFO is
full, leading to the callback being infinitly pushed back.

This commit fixes the issue by never pushing back the timer, only
updating it if it is not already active.

8b1dac1ad5 hw/char/sclpconsole-lm: skip automatic zero-init of large array
The 'process_mdb' method has a 4k byte array used for copying data
between the guest and the chardev backend. Skip the automatic zero-init
of this array to eliminate the performance overhead in the I/O hot

The 'buffer' array will be selectively initialized when data is converted

bc85aae420 vhost-user: return failure if backend crash when live migration
Live migration should be terminated if the vhost-user backend crashes
before the migration completes.

Specifically, since the vhost device will be stopped when VM is stopped
before the end of the live migration, in current implementation if the
backend crashes, vhost-user device set_status() won't return failure,
live migration won't perceive the disconnection between QEMU and the
backend.

When the VM is migrated to the destination, the inflight IO will be
resubmitted, and if the IO was completed out of order before, it will
cause IO error.

To fix this issue:
1. Add the return value to set_status() for VirtioDeviceClass.
  a. For the vhost-user device, return failure when the backend crashes.
  b. For other virtio devices, always return 0.
2. Return failure if vhost_dev_stop() failed for vhost-user device.

If QEMU loses connection with the vhost-user backend, virtio set_status()
can return failure to the upper layer, migration_completion() can handle
the error, terminate the live migration, and restore the VM, so that
inflight IO can be completed normally.

70fe5ae121 hw/char/bcm2835_aux: Fix incorrect interrupt ID when RX disabled
Fix a misconfiguration issue in the read implementation of the
AUX_MU_IIR_REG register. This issue can lead to a transmit interrupt
being incorrectly interpreted as a receive interrupt when the receive
interrupt is disabled and the receive FIFO holds valid bytes.

The AUX_MU_IIR_REG register (interrupt ID bits [2:1]) indicates the
status of mini UART interrupts:

    - 00: No interrupts
    - 01: Transmit FIFO is empty
    - 10: Receive FIFO is not empty
    - 11: <Not possible>

When the transmit interrupt is enabled and the receive interrupt is
disabled, the original code incorrectly sets the interrupt ID bits.
Specifically:

    1. Transmit FIFO empty, receive FIFO empty
        - Expected 0b01, returned 0b01 (correct)
    2. Transmit FIFO empty, receive FIFO not empty
        - Expected 0b01, returned 0b10 (incorrect)

In the second case, the code sets the interrupt ID to 0b10 (receive FIFO
is not empty) even if the receive interrupt is disabled.

To fix this, the patch adds additional condition for setting the
interrupt ID bits to also check if the receive interrupt is enabled.

f88c9cd804 rust: Kconfig: Factor out whether PL011 is Rust or C
Currently every board that uses the PL011 duplicates the logic that
selects the Rust implementation if Rust was enabled and the C
implementation if it does not. Factor this out into a separate
Kconfig stanza, so that boards can go back to simply doing "select
PL011" and get whichever implementation is correct for the build.

This fixes a compilation failure if CONFIG_VMAPPLE is enabled
in a Rust build, because hw/vmapple/Kconfig didn't have the
"pick the Rust PL011 if Rust is enabled" logic in it.

5b14454d37 Revert "hw/char/pl011: Warn when using disabled receiver"
The guest does not control whether characters are sent on the UART.
Sending them before the guest happens to boot will now result in a
"guest error" log entry that is only because of timing, even if the
guest _would_ later setup the receiver correctly.

This reverts the bulk of commit abf2b6a028,
and instead adds a comment about why we don't check the enable bits.

543671d990 hw/char/sh_serial: Return correct number of empty RX FIFO elements
In the IOCanReadHandler sh_serial_can_receive(), if the Serial
Control Register 'Receive Enable' bit is set (bit 4), then we
return a size of (1 << 4) which happens to be equal to 16, so
effectively SH_RX_FIFO_LENGTH.

The IOReadHandler, sh_serial_receive1() takes care to receive
multiple chars, but if the FIFO is partly filled, we only process
the number of free slots in the FIFO, discarding the other chars!

Fix by returning how many elements the FIFO can queue in the
IOCanReadHandler, so we don't have to process more than that in
the IOReadHandler, thus not discarding anything.

Remove the now unnecessary check on 's->rx_cnt < SH_RX_FIFO_LENGTH'
in IOReadHandler, reducing the block indentation.

b6cd77fbdd hw/char/imx_serial: Fix reset value of UFCR register
The value of the UCFR register is respected when echoing characters to the
terminal, but its reset value is reserved. Fix the reset value to the one
documented in the datasheet.

While at it move the related attribute out of the section of unimplemented
registers since its value is actually respected.

8b44a3e39f hw/xen: Fix errp handling in xen_console
When attempting to read the 'output' node, interpret any error *other*
than ENOENT as a fatal error. For ENOENT, fall back to serial_hd() to
find a character device, or create a null device.

Do not attempt to prepend to errp when serial_hd() fails; the error
isn't relevant (and prior to this change, wasn't set anyway).

7a0b74d871 xen: do not use '%ms' scanf specifier
The 'm' parameter used to request auto-allocation of the destination variable
is not supported on FreeBSD, and as such leads to failures to parse.

What's more, the current usage of '%ms' with xs_node_scanf() is pointless, as
it just leads to a double allocation of the same string. Instead use
xs_node_read() to read the whole xenstore node.
