faa29110b9 docs/system: merge vhost-user-input into vhost-user-contrib

dissuade people from using them in production. Update the references in

da703b06a5 net/passt: Implement vhost-user backend support
This commit adds support for the vhost-user interface to the passt
network backend, enabling high-performance, accelerated networking for
guests using passt.

The passt backend can now operate in a vhost-user mode, where it
communicates with the guest's virtio-net device over a socket pair
using the vhost-user protocol. This offloads the datapath from the
main QEMU loop, significantly improving network performance.

When the vhost-user=on option is used with -netdev passt, the new
vhost initialization path is taken instead of the standard
stream-based connection.

854ee02b22 net: Add passt network backend
This commit introduces support for passt as a new network backend.
passt is an unprivileged, user-mode networking solution that provides
connectivity for virtual machines by launching an external helper process.

The implementation reuses the generic stream data handling logic. It
launches the passt binary using GSubprocess, passing it a file
descriptor from a socketpair() for communication. QEMU connects to
the other end of the socket pair to establish the network data stream.

The PID of the passt daemon is tracked via a temporary file to
ensure it is terminated when QEMU exits.

23a4b3ebc7 hw/nvme: Add OCP SMART / Health Information Extended Log Page
The Open Compute Project [1] includes a Datacenter NVMe
SSD Specification [2]. The most recent version of this specification
(as of November 2024) is 2.6.1. This specification layers on top of
the NVM Express specifications [3] to provide additional
functionality. A key part of of this is the 512 Byte OCP SMART / Health
Information Extended log page that is defined in Section 4.8.6 of the
specification.

We add a controller argument (ocp) that toggles on/off the SMART log
extended structure. To accommodate different vendor specific specifications
like OCP, we add a multiplexing function (nvme_vendor_specific_log) which
will route to the different log functions based on arguments and log ids.
We only return the OCP extended SMART log when the command is 0xC0 and ocp
has been turned on in the nvme argumants.

Though we add the whole nvme SMART log extended structure, we only populate
the physical_media_units_{read,written}, log_page_version and
log_page_uuid.

This patch is based on work done by Joel but has been modified enough
that he requested a co-developed-by tag rather than a signed-off-by.

e6c33efed3 hw/misc/ivshmem-flat: Add ivshmem-flat device
Add a new device, ivshmem-flat, which is similar to the ivshmem PCI but
does not require a PCI bus. It's meant to be used on machines like those
with Cortex-M MCUs, which usually lack a PCI/PCIe bus, e.g. lm3s6965evb
and mps2-an385.

The device currently only supports the sysbus bus.

The new device, just like the ivshmem PCI device, supports both peer
notification via hardware interrupts and shared memory.

The device shared memory size can be set using the 'shmem-size' option
and it defaults to 4 MiB, which is the default size of shmem allocated
by the ivshmem server.

4e647fa085 hostmem: add a new memory backend based on POSIX shm_open()
shm_open() creates and opens a new POSIX shared memory object.
A POSIX shared memory object allows creating memory backend with an
associated file descriptor that can be shared with external processes
(e.g. vhost-user).

The new `memory-backend-shm` can be used as an alternative when
`memory-backend-memfd` is not available (Linux only), since shm_open()
should be provided by any POSIX-compliant operating system.

This backend mimics memfd, allocating memory that is practically
anonymous. In theory shm_open() requires a name, but this is allocated
for a short time interval and shm_unlink() is called right after
shm_open(). After that, only fd is shared with external processes
(e.g., vhost-user) as if it were associated with anonymous memory.

In the future we may also allow the user to specify the name to be
passed to shm_open(), but for now we keep the backend simple, mimicking
anonymous memory such as memfd.

6b90a4cdc0 escc: emulate dip switch language layout settings on SUN keyboard
SUN Type 4, 5 and 5c keyboards have dip switches to choose the language layout
of the keyboard. Solaris makes an ioctl to query the value of the dipswitches
and uses that value to select keyboard layout. Also the SUN bios like the one
in the file ss5.bin uses this value to support at least some keyboard layouts.
However, the OpenBIOS provided with qemu is hardcoded to always use an US
keyboard layout.

Before this patch, qemu allways gave dip switch value 0x21 (US keyboard),
this patch uses a command line switch like
"-global escc.chnA-sunkbd-layout=de" to select dip switch value. A table is
used to lookup values from arguments like:

-global escc.chnA-sunkbd-layout=fr
-global escc.chnA-sunkbd-layout=es

But the patch also accepts numeric dip switch values directly:

-global escc.chnA-sunkbd-layout=0x2b
-global escc.chnA-sunkbd-layout=43

Both values above are the same and select swedish keyboard as explained in
table 3-15 at
https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19683-01/806-6642/new-43/index.html

Unless you want to do a full Solaris installation but happen to have
access to a Sun bios file, the easiest way to test that the patch works
is to:

qemu-system-sparc -global escc.chnA-sunkbd-layout=sv -bios /path/to/ss5.bin

If you already happen to have a Solaris installation in a qemu disk image
file you can easily try different keyboard layouts after this patch is
applied.

adacc814f5 hw/cxl: Multi-Region CXL Type-3 Devices (Volatile and Persistent)
This commit enables each CXL Type-3 device to contain one volatile
memory region and one persistent region.

Two new properties have been added to cxl-type3 device initialization:
    [volatile-memdev] and [persistent-memdev]

The existing [memdev] property has been deprecated and will default the
memory region to a persistent memory region (although a user may assign
the region to a ram or file backed region). It cannot be used in
combination with the new [persistent-memdev] property.

Partitioning volatile memory from persistent memory is not yet supported.

Volatile memory is mapped at DPA(0x0), while Persistent memory is mapped
at DPA(vmem->size), per CXL Spec 8.2.9.8.2.0 - Get Partition Info.
